In addition, Moms Demand Action recognized O'Keefe as a Gun Sense Candidate for his leadership on gun violence prevention and public safety. O'Keefe successfully proposed adding several gun safety priorities to Leon County's state and federal legislative agenda, including universal background checks, secure firearm storage laws, extreme risk protection orders, and requirements that lost and stolen firearms be reported to law enforcement.
"Keeping our community safe is one of the most important responsibilities of public service," O'Keefe said. "While local governments face limits under state law, we have a responsibility to advocate for policies that protect our students, families, and neighbors."
"These endorsements reflect the broad coalition we are building across Leon County," O'Keefe added. "Whether it's supporting workers, protecting our environment, or keeping our communities safe, people want leaders who focus on practical solutions and put the community first."
David O'Keefe currently serves on the Leon County Commission representing District 5 and is seeking reelection in 2026.

COUNTY COMMISSIONER DAVID O'KEEFE EARNS SUPPORT FROM LABOR, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND GUN SAFETY LEADERS
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - June 3, 2026 — Leon County Commissioner David O'Keefe's reelection campaign announces today that he has earned the endorsement of the Big Bend Labor Chapter of the AFL-CIO, the endorsement of the Leon County Environmental Caucus, and the Gun Sense Candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action.
Together, these recognitions reflect O'Keefe's record of standing up for working families, protecting Leon County's natural resources, and advocating for common-sense policies that keep communities safe.
The Big Bend Labor Chapter of the AFL-CIO, North Florida's largest labor organization, endorsed O'Keefe's reelection campaign. The Chapter represents more than a dozen bargaining units and over 5,300 workers across Leon, Gadsden, Franklin, Wakulla, Liberty, Calhoun, Madison, and Taylor counties, including more than 3,000 workers in Leon County.
"I'm doing everything I can to make Tallahassee a better place for workers, which makes it a better place for families, which makes it a better place for everyone," said O'Keefe. "I'm honored to have the support of the Big Bend Labor Chapter and grateful for the work they do every day on behalf of working people."
O'Keefe has also earned the endorsement of the Leon County Democratic Environmental Caucus, which supports candidates committed to addressing climate change, expanding clean energy, protecting natural resources, preserving wildlife habitat, and advancing environmental justice.
"Thank you for your ongoing commitment to advocacy and service for the values the Environmental Caucus seeks to move forward for Leon County," said Claudia Sperber, Caucus President in announcing the endorsement. "We look forward to supporting your campaign."
Throughout his time in office, O'Keefe has supported efforts to strengthen environmental stewardship, improve sustainability, and preserve the quality of life that makes Leon County a special place to live, work, and raise a family. This has included promoting the Climate Emergency Declaration, preventing sprawling expansion on canopy roads, and expanding affordable housing investments for families.
